We design and build websites, brands and search visibility for a small number of
companies each year. We do not pitch, cold call or enter tenders. Work reaches us
by reputation, and every enquiry is studied before it is accepted.
We do not produce speculative work, enter tenders, or compete on price against studios who have not read your market. If a company wants three agencies chasing one brief, we are the wrong studio.
Research before agreement
Once you write to us we spend real hours on your sector, your competitors and the demand that already exists around your category. Only then do we say yes or no.
A limited book
We hold a small number of engagements at any time so that the partners who assess your business are the same people who build it. Growth for us means better clients, not more of them.
SHEET 02SERVICESSIX DISCIPLINES
Everything that decides whether a company is found, believed and chosen.
Six disciplines, run by one team, on one plan. We do not hand your brand to a separate SEO vendor and hope the two agree.
2.1
Web design and development
Bespoke sites, e-commerce and web applications drawn from scratch and built in house. No purchased themes, no page-builder debt, no template a competitor can buy next week.
Design systems and art direction
WordPress, WooCommerce, headless
Core Web Vitals and accessibility
2.2
Search engine optimisation
Technical foundations, content that answers real demand, and links earned through work worth writing about. We report on revenue and qualified enquiries, not on vanity rankings.
Technical audits and migrations
Keyword and intent mapping
Digital PR and authority building
2.3
AI search and answer engines
ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and AI Overviews now sit between your customer and your website. We build the entity data, structured markup and source material that make you the answer they cite.
Schema and entity modelling
Answer-shaped content architecture
Citation and share of voice tracking
2.4
Brand building
Positioning first, then the name, the mark, the voice and the rules that hold it together. A brand is a promise a market can repeat back to you without your help.
Positioning and messaging
Identity and design systems
Guidelines and brand governance
2.5
Public relations
Editorial coverage that a search engine and a customer both trust. We place founders in the publications their buyers already read, and prepare them properly before they speak.
Media relations and placement
Founder and spokesperson preparation
Reputation and crisis counsel
2.6
Ongoing stewardship
We keep what we build. Managed hosting, monitoring, security, performance budgets and a monthly review with a person who knows your business, not a ticket queue.
Managed hosting and monitoring
Security and update discipline
Monthly reporting and roadmap
SHEET 03METHODSECTION THROUGH THE THRESHOLD
FIG. 03 FIVE BANDS, CROSSED IN ORDER
Nothing is answered until it has been studied.
Five bands sit between work arriving here and work beginning. They are crossed in order,
and each one narrows.
We turn down most of what reaches us. Not because the companies are poor, but because we hold
a small number of engagements at a time and each one has to be worth the room it takes.
The work reaches us
An email arrives. A partner reads it, not an account executive and not a form autoresponder.
We study the market
We research your sector, your competitors, your search demand and the shape of your category. Real hours, at our own cost, before any commitment exists.
We form a view
Two questions, asked internally. Can we move this business materially, and will the people running it let us do the work properly.
We answer in writing
A yes or a no, with the reasoning either way. A no usually comes with the honest reason and, where we can, a better direction.
The work begins
Scope, terms and named people. From here you deal with the same team until the work is finished.
Published so you can save yourself the email if we are clearly the wrong studio.
Work we take on
01Companies with a product or service that is already good, where the problem is that too few people know it
02Founders and boards who can make a decision in one meeting
03Categories where organic search and reputation genuinely decide the sale
04Long horizons. Brand and search both compound, and neither pays out in six weeks
05Clients who want an opinion, and will argue with it properly
Work we turn down
01Briefs sent to five studios at once
02Requests for free concepts, mockups or strategy up front
03Work that needs claims we cannot stand behind
04Direct competitors of a client we already hold
05Anyone who opens with the question of how cheap we can go
SHEET 05FEESNO RATE CARD
We price the work, never the hour.
FIG. 04 AN OPEN DIMENSION
The number follows the ambition
What you want moved, how far you want it moved, and by when. A single page said properly and a three year rebuild of a company's entire presence are both work we take on. They are not the same number, and no rate card could hold both.
A floor, but no ceiling
There is a point below which we cannot do the work well, and we will tell you where it sits rather than take the job and disappoint you. Above that there is no upper figure, because the limit is set by what you are trying to achieve, not by what we charge per day.
Quoted once, in writing
After the market study you get one figure against a defined scope, fixed. If the scope changes we tell you what that costs before we do it, not on the invoice afterwards. There is no hourly meter running in the background.
What you are actually buying
Judgement, and the hours of people who have made these mistakes already at somebody else's expense. If the lowest bid in your inbox is the one you want, take it. It will not be ours, and we will not try to talk you out of it.
SHEET 06NOTESCOMMON QUESTIONS
Questions we are asked before the first call.
Do you take on everything that comes to you?
No. Every enquiry is researched before we answer it, and we hold a small number of engagements at a time. Most of what reaches us we turn down, usually because we cannot move it materially.
How long before you answer?
Five to ten working days from the point we have enough information. You get an answer in writing either way, with our reasoning.
Where do you work?
Wherever the work is good. Our clients sit across South Asia, the Gulf, the United Kingdom, Australia and North America, and the method is identical in each.
What does it cost?
There is no rate card. The figure follows the scope, the ambition and how long we hold the work, and those vary by an order of magnitude between one client and the next. We quote once, in writing, against a defined scope, after the market study rather than before it.
Why is there no contact form on this website?
A form invites volume. A written note tells us how you think, what you have already tried, and whether the two of us are going to work well together. Write to hello@bestwebdesign.lk and a partner reads it.
